On February 8, 2021, the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized a video seminar on carbon peak and carbon neutrality in key industries to study the goals and tasks of industrial response to climate change during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and promote the preparation of industrial low-carbon action plans. Representatives of key industry associations such as iron and steel, building materials, cement, petroleum and chemical industry, non-ferrous metals, textiles, papermaking, and automobiles, as well as research institutions such as the Metallurgical Industry Planning Institute, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and CCID Research Institute participated. Representatives of various industries conducted in-depth discussions on the industrial structure, market demand and import and export of key products, green and low-carbon technology innovation and promotion, renewable energy utilization, and carbon emission trading market construction, and put forward a peak roadmap, peak time prediction, and corresponding technical paths and policy measures.

Gao Yunhu, director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping announced that China's carbon dioxide emissions will strive to peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, which puts forward new and higher requirements for the green and low-carbon transformation of industry. Industry is an important area of carbon emissions, and whether it can take the lead in reaching the peak, especially whether key industries can reach the peak ahead of schedule, will be the key to China's commitment to addressing climate change. In accordance with the deployment requirements of the Central Economic Work Conference and the National Industrial and Information Work Conference, we should do a good job in carbon peak and carbon neutrality, pay close attention to formulating industrial low-carbon action plans, and support qualified industries to take the lead in reaching the peak.
